Voluntary tree replacement pilot program

The voluntary tree replacement pilot program has closed.

About the program

PIRSA partnered with the District Council of Loxton Waikerie to run a pilot program to improve the management of backyard fruit trees.

The program aimed to reduce fruit fly detections in the Riverland and educate residents about the importance of fruit tree maintenance.

The program involved replacing unwanted residential backyard fruit trees in the Waikerie red outbreak area with non-fruiting trees or shrubs.

The program was completely voluntary and backyard fruit trees were only replaced if the landholder applied for the program.

Applications were open from November 2022 until 17 March 2023.
