Riverland shopping options for restricted fruit and vegetables

Various shopping options are available for both Riverland residents and travellers throughout the Riverland Pest Free Area (PFA).

Shopping within the Riverland Pest Free Area

You can buy fresh fruit and vegetables from accredited retailers in the Riverland PFA. We encourage you to continue supporting local shops. As you travel through the Riverland, keep your itemised receipt and seal any fresh produce in a bag or container.

You should not buy restricted items from unaccredited retailers, including some roadside stalls, private homes or on sites like Marketplace. Untreated fruit risks spreading fruit fly. You may be fined if caught travelling with restricted items.

Moving the produce

You can move fruit and vegetables purchased at accredited Riverland retailers across all fruit fly affected areas in the Riverland. You must:

  • keep your itemised receipt
  • seal the fruit and vegetables in a bag or container while moving them.

You can't move home-grown, restricted fruit and vegetables from:

  • properties in a red outbreak area to anywhere else
  • anywhere in the Riverland PFA to other parts of South Australia.

Shopping outside the Riverland PFA

You can't bring any restricted fruit and vegetables into the Riverland PFA, no matter whether it’s home-grown or shop-bought. This includes from metropolitan supermarkets, markets, stalls, online, or interstate.
