Weekly detections map
Wednesday 17 June 2026
The Department of Primary Industries and Regions (PIRSA) is continuing to see steady numbers of Queensland fruit fly detections in the Riverland, however, in line with fewer detections through the winter months, there have been no detections recorded in 22 of the 58 outbreak areas over the past 12 weeks.
To provide a clear, up-to-date view of fruit fly activity in outbreak areas across South Australia, PIRSA maintains a fruit fly detections map on their website. Updated regularly, the interactive map shows the number of fruit fly detections recently recorded in red outbreak zones.
This information helps residents, growers and industry better understand how the pest is moving through outbreak areas and where heightened vigilance is needed.
General Manager of the Fruit Fly Response, Jason Size, said the map is designed to support stronger community awareness and action.
“The detection data we’re seeing is encouraging and gives us confidence, but it is not a reason to become complacent,” Mr Size said.
“By making detection data more accessible and easier to interpret, we’re helping people stay informed, act early, and play their part in eradicating fruit fly in the Riverland.”
Biosecurity is a shared responsibility between government, industry and the community, and the regular release of detection data helps keep everyone informed and actively engaged in protecting the state.
The timely information will support on-farm decision-making, backyard gardeners with hygiene practices, and improve compliance with fruit and vegetable movement restrictions.
