Fruit fly restrictions on shop-bought fruit change in the Riverland

Restrictions on the movement of purchased fruit and vegetables at risk from fruit fly have changed for Riverland shoppers.

Local residents and regular travellers can now move fruit and vegetables purchased at Riverland stores freely across all fruit fly affected areas, with an itemised receipt.

You must seal fruit and veg in a bag or container when transporting it, and fruit waste must be double-bagged and put your rubbish bin.

Retail fruit is certified as being free of fruit fly before it reaches retail outlets, so with these controls in place is an extremely low risk for spreading fruit fly.

You still cannot move home-grown fruit off any properties in a red outbreak area. It is a high risk for fruit fly and has not had agreed treatments applied like store bought produce.

Changes to retail fruit movement have been made to ease pressure on the local community.  due to the unprecedented number of outbreaks in the region.

Remember, the Riverland Pest Free Area rules that restrict certain fruit and vegetables from being brought into the area remain in place.

Understand what home-grown restricted fruit and vegetables can and cannot be moved from outbreak areas.
