Prevent fruit fly

Fruit fly is not established in South Australia, and we take serious measures to protect the state from this pest. Our prevention methods are used to control fruit fly and support horticultural industries.

Residents in outbreak areas also need to know how to identify and report fruit fly, including maintaining your garden to stop their breeding cycle.

PIRSA's prevention methods

It's important for South Australia's economy to retain our fruit fly free status.

We use SIT technology in the Riverland to sustainably reduce numbers of wild Queensland fruit fly.

PIRSA Fruit Fly Officers also visit homes in the red outbreak areas. We assess what you grow in your garden and work out if you need regular treatments to prevent fruit fly.
