Treatment options for metro outbreaks
The declared outbreak of Queensland fruit fly in Elizabeth East may affect how you can:
- move and sell produce grown in the affected area
- move produce to the affected area for sale, storage, or processing.
Check the outbreak map to find out if you're in an affected area.
Approved treatment procedures
The treatment option that suits you best will depend which market you want to access. If you're growing or moving restricted produce within or through a red outbreak zone or yellow suspension zone, you may need to apply an accepted treatment.

Fumigation treatment
SA Produce Market and additional fumigation facilities
If you choose to fumigate at this site, or an additional registered and accredited site, your produce needs to be stored in secure conditions until fumigation is applied. The produce must be either:
- stored in an enclosed building (the Growers Pavilion or Wholesalers and Growers premises)
- covered with appropriate fruit fly netting.
For either option, you must make sure that there are no gaps larger than 1.6 mm when measured diagonally. This includes holes in any enclosed building or fruit fly netting.
Our Market Access team will spot check enclosed buildings and netting at storage locations.
Make a booking
You must book in for fumigation before your produce arrives on site:
SA Produce Market
- Phone: 0455 257 641
- Email: fumigation@saproducemarket.com.au
- or call Fruit Fly Industry Hotline on 1800 255 556
After your produce has been fumigated, SAPM unloaders can deliver the produce to a secured building in the market ready for its next destination.
